The network of PlantDirect is responsible for chokeberry cultivation in more than 2,500 hectares, which is 80% of the cultivated area in Greece. All farms are organically certified, while specialised cultivation protocols that are adapted on the microclimate and the soil profile of each farm may be used as a result of extensive research and experiments. Varieties of interest: Viking, Nero, Aaron, Hugin, Galicjanka 1 & 2.
As far as the cultivation of hippophae is concerned, our network is responsible for more than 500 hectares of hippophaes, including varieties of Leikora, Frugana, Sirola, Habego, Hergo, Chuyskaya, etc. The great majority of the farms are certified according to the Organic Agriculture standards, whereas the cultivation strategies are formed and controlled by our experts and thanks to our excellent laboratory infrastructures.
For the cultivation of this plant, our network cooperates with producers from Thessaly and Macedonia and our cultivated areas exceed the 250 hectares. Our network developed holdings of raspberry and blackberry, for the first time in 2013. Up until now, our cooperating holdings go beyond Thessaly, Epirus and Macedonia, covering an area of 30 hectares. Our cultivation techniques are fully guided and the total holdings are certified by the GlobalGap model.
The cultivation of blueberry is particularly challenging concerning the soil profile of the land that tends to be planted. Nevertheless, our network cooperates with producers from Thessaly and Macedonia and their farms expand to more than 200 hectares. The great majority of these is certified according to the Organic Agriculture and GlobalGap standards, whereas the cultivation strategies are formed and controlled by our experts and thanks to our excellent laboratory infrastructures.
During 2014, our network developed, at a private level, 30 hectares of holdings of golden berry and 70 hectares of holdings of pepino. For the next growing period, these two fruits are planned to be cultivated in selected areas on demand of commercial companies, operating in Greece and abroad.
